MySimBiz Applied Business and Computer Training
 
MySimBiz provides individuals with real-world business start-up and management activities in which they can either apply previously-learned computer skills - or they can learn computer skills in the context of actual business applications. Unlike other business or information processing simulations, individuals have the option of working in cooperative teams of two to three while managing and operating a retail business that sells electronic entertainment equipment.

Individuals make professional and managerial-level decisions as they create and maintain the necessary plans, documents and records to operate and managment their business. Each team can compete with other teams in the class to earn the greatest net profit.
 
There are thirty-six job tasks in MySimBiz simulating six months of business activity.  During the course, the job skills of 26 occupations are utilized, and further career exploration opportunity is provided for each.
 
MySimBiz requires as little as fifteen to thirty hours to complete - more if the extensive "branching" capability is utilized to learn computer software, complete extra activities, and explore careers covered in the curriculum.

Specific Course Objectives

The activities in mySimBiz provide opportunities for individuals to fulfill the following measurable and observable objectives:

  10. Use market research to make purchasing inventory decisions
  1. Apply trade discounts, net pricing, and volume pricing when
    making inventory decisions
  2. Maintain an inventory spreadsheet
  3. Maintain a cash flow spreadsheet
  4. Maintain an income statement spreadsheet
  5. Create advertisements
  6. Create a slide presentation
  7. Use mail merge
  8. Create and query a spreadsheet/database
  9. Practice accurate data entry
